National Hispanic Heritage Month

What is National Hispanic Heritage Month?

National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year from Sept. 15 – Oct. 15.  This coincides with the independence celebrations of seven Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile.

A 1989 Presidential Proclamation marked the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month.  From 1968 – 1988, National Hispanic Heritage Week was celebrated during the week that included Sept. 15 and 16.
